ISPON to Reward Software Startup Companies

The Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (ISPON) is set to reward deserving Software start-up companies for their exploits in the Nigerian software industry with the Prize for software excellence for ‘Best Software Startup of the Year’, at the 2013 ISPON President Dinner.

According to a press statement made available to Journalist recently, the prize for software excellence for Best Software Startup of the Year is an award instituted by the Jim Ovia Foundation and domiciled under ISPON.

dinner and present the awards to the deserving winner at the event.

The dinner is a prelude to ISPON’s big event, which attracts the best brains in the Information Society – the National Software Conference and Competition – Tinapa 2013 scheduled for Tinapa, Calabar, Cross River State Nigeria in October 2013, where Prof. Tapio Varis would deliver the keynote on e-Learning Solutions.

Varis is the chair of Professional Education, with an emphasis on global learning environments, at the Research Centre for Vocational Education, University of Tampere, Finland, and the UNESCO Chair in Global e-Learning.

The ISPON president Dinner would be chaired by Vice Chancellor, Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, Prof. Charles Ayo.

Ayo was previously the Head of the computer science department; he has a Ph.D in Mathematics – Numerical Computation. The ISPON President Dinner 2013 aims to host the crème de la crème of the Nigeria ICT industry, software in particular, to a night of relaxed conversation, networking and knowledge sharing on issues relevant to the advancement of the Nigerian IT domain.

Notable dignitaries to grace the dinner include the senior representative of the Ministry for Communication Technology, DG of the National Information Technology Development Authority (NITDA) Prof. Cleopas Angaye, Special adviser to the Governor of Cross River State, Mr. Odo Effiong, former Minister of State for Information and Communication, Mr. Ibrahim Dasuki Nakande and former Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Ernest Ndukwe.

Others are: former Minister for Petroleum, Mr. Don Etiebet, President, NCS, Sir Demola Aladekomo; President, CPN, Mr. Ibrahim Tizhe; Provost, NCS College of Fellows, Mr. Ladi Ogunneye; President ITAN, Mrs. Florence Seriki; CEO Executive Cyberschuul, Mr. Titi Omo-Ettu; Prof. Pat Utomi of the Lagos Business School, Chairman Zinox Technologies Limited, Mr. Leo Stan Ekeh; Senior Commercial Specialist, United States Consulate, Nigeria, Mr. Anayo Agu; and CEO MainOne Cable Company, Ms. Funke Opeke.
